Teresa (Terri)'s Story
Life
Life if nothing else has been interesting since High School. I'm happily married with 2 children and 2 grandchildren. I work full time training financial software. My husband works at Walt Disney World and freelances as a nature photographer. Lately he has been working with the Nature Conservancy, so most his spare time is spent hiking through protected land (National Forest etc.).
I use to do this with him traveling to conservation lands through this beautiful country. We spent vacations and holidays every year and I loved every minute of it until about 6 years ago life trough me a curve ball hitting me with Lupus (SLE) and then 2 years later Fibromyalgia. I am lucky because I am still currently employed. As of the first of 2007 I now work from home since it has become impossible to spend the day in the office. As a trainer I do my classes over the computer (e-learning) and if I do have to travel I normally have someone with me with the understanding I can only be out for 2 days max. I work for a large company and have been a valued employee for 10 years so I am lucky because so far they are working with me most would have lost their job by now.
The only reason I am putting this in my bio is to raise awareness and asking for you to support your local Lupus and Fibromyalgia Chapters. If you have SLE Lupus (organ threatening lupus) Lupus can be life threatening even t...Expand for more
oday. That is not to say there are no treatments but like the treatments for cancer sometimes the treatment is as bad or worse than the disease. With awareness and your support maybe we can find a cure and I can once again go hiking in these beautiful forest with my husband.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease which means the immune system turns against parts of the body it is designed to protect. This leads to inflammation and damage to various body tissues including the joints, skin, kidneys, heart, lungs, blood vessels, and brain. At present, there is no cure for lupus. The Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) estimates that 1.5 million Americans have a form of lupus, but the actual number may be higher. More than 90 percent of people with lupus are women. From Lupus Foundation WEB
Fibromyalgia syndrome is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue disorder for which the cause is still unknown. Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons all over the body. A conservative estimate is 2% of the general population, but it may be as high as 3-5% suffers from this syndrome. To help you relate to Fibromyalgia symptoms, think back to the last time you had a bad flu. Every muscle in their body shouted out in pain, now multiply that by 10. This is what Fibromyalgia feels like everyday plus they have absolutely no energy.
